Google Mapathon runs into trouble

During February – March 2013, Google launched a "Mapathon" in India to update its online maps. Government authorities objected to the event and found it to be in contravention of the national Mapping Policy of 2005 and Defence policies as it would place certain sensitive geospatial data. It was found that Google did not obtain the requisite approvals from any government agency before the contest. A complaint was filed against Google by Survey of India.
