The Official Gazette of the National Government published the statement of Undersecretary Abigail Valte, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson announcing the #KabantayNgBayan, a data hackathon organized by the Open Data Philippines Task Force. This event will be happening on November 9-10, 2013 on a two-day hackathon open for IT developers and designers using open data on national government budget. The challenge is to build applications that will present innovation on transparency and increasing awareness on government spending.
According to Undersecretary Valte’s statement #KabantayNgBayan “envisioned to produce apps that will not only aid government performance but also encourage the citizenry to participate in good governance, specifically in the areas of public financial management.”
The hackathon was organised by the Open Data Task Force and will also launch the Open Data Philippines (www.data.gov.ph) with the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS), Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Office (PCDSPO) and Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The hackathon is supported and in partnership with Microsoft, Smart Developers’ Network, Smart Bro, IdeaSpace Foundation as well as other corporate partners in the Philippines.
